General Rules and Conditions


All Team Captains MUST read the General Rules and Conditions that apply to all SWG Inter-Club Team knock-out Competitions. (Rules G1-G26 and T1-6), Issue v24

All players who wish to enter a SWG competition must be in possession of a current, registered WHS handicap. They must have played three qualifying rounds in the previous 12 months(not including cards used to gain their Initial Handicap Index)prior to the date of each match. This applies to handicap and scratch competitions.


Where there is a Handicap Index eligibility criteria, it is the Handicap Index of the day immediately preceding the match that applies for eligibility to play. Actual Handicap Index on the day is used to calculate the course handicap for playing order.


Wallis Trophy Rules and Conditions (WT= Wallis Trophy)


WT1. An Inter-Club WHS band 20.1 - 36.0  team singles handicap match play Competition, played annually.


WT2. A club affiliated to the SWG will enter a team of 5 players.


WT3. All team members should have a current handicap index in the range 20.1-36.0 inclusive. A player with a handicap index greater than 36.0  may take part but their handicap index will be 36.0 for the purposes of the competition.  Matches will be played off full difference of course handicap. Only those with current WHS handicaps will be allowed.


WT4. Teams must play in course handicap order.  If players are of equal course handicaps, the Team Captain may place them in her preferred playing order.  (Combined Competition Rules T2 in event of dispute)


WT5. A player who is a member of more than one club may choose which club she wishes to represent during the season but may not play in Wallis Trophy/Plate matches for any other club.


WT6. All teams will play “Home” and “Away” matches each round except the FINAL.


WT7. All matches played to the 18th with an A/S result giving half point to each team, until the final when matches must be played to a conclusion. 


(In the second leg, players may be called in if an overall team result has been reached)


WT8 . For a tied match in the Wallis Trophy (5-5), the highest number of game points will decide the winner. Game points are awarded as follows for example; 


Win by 6/4 = 6 points to the winner


Win by 2 holes = 2 points to the winner


Win on 18th hole = 1 point to the winner 


All Square on 18th hole = .5 point to both players


Match Claimed = 10 points to the claimant (see T4) 


Walkover = 10 points to the winner 


Illness/injury during match = score at time or 1 point, whichever is greater (see G17) 


WT9. If still tied, the first named player in each team must play “sudden death” from the 1st tee to obtain a result.


WT10. The final will be played at Clandon Regis GC on 15th October 2026


WT11 Play by Dates ( Following the Preliminary round, which finishes on April 5th)


R1 Play by 31st May (8 weeks)


R2 Play by 12th July ( 6 weeks) 


R3 Play by 23rd August (6 weeks)


R4 Semifinal, Play by 4th Oct (6 weeks)


Final will be held at Clandon Regis GC on 15th October 2026
