Squad Training
The Winter Training Squad attend a series of evening range sessions and squad training days during January – March each year. Members of the squad are also asked for availability for the early season 1st and 2nd team matches.
The Training Squad is made up of players based primarily in the local area but Surrey also has a number of players who are currently studying overseas. These players will be considered for County team selection, if available.
Invitations to join the Training Squad are sent out in November for the upcoming winter. Approximately 20-25 players are invited to be part of the squad. There are three main aims of the winter programme:
- Provide an opportunity for 1st and 2nd team golfers to continue to meet, socialise and practise together during the winter months;
- Ensure players are ready to perform competitively at the start of the season;
- Provide an opportunity for players to continue to develop their skills under the guidance of County Coach John Noble
The squad comprises a mix of adults and juniors. There is no set handicap limit but as a guide the following principles are used when selecting the squad:
- Adults who are interested in playing competitive golf and are keen to be considered to represent the Surrey 1st or 2nd team in 2025;
- Juniors who have the potential to represent the Surrey 1st Team in 2025. There are also other training groups for Juniors, more details of which can be found here
