The Women's Amateur Championship, one of the leading championships in amateur golf for female players, starts today at Portmarnock in Ireland.  Two Surrey players are in the field, Lottie Woad, pictured above, who is the WAGR no.1 player and a member of Farnham Golf Club, and Ellie Monk of Sunningdale.  Follow their progress with live scoring here.  The final match play stages of the Championship on Friday and Saturday will be covered live on R&A TV - link here

The Championship is played over six days, two qualifying stroke play rounds and four days of match play.  This year, there is a field of 144 competitors from 35 different countries.

The Championship, founded in 1893, attracts an international field with an impressive list of former winners including McCormack Medal winner Leona Maguire and major champions Georgia Hall and Anna Nordqvist. The winner gains entry to the AIG Women’s Open, US Women’s Open, The Amundi Evian Championship, Chevron Championship and by tradition, an invite to compete at Augusta National Women's Amateur Championship.
