Surrey’s final match of 2025 was at Banstead Downs against Sussex. Having reviewed the status of the results, Surrey realised that to win against Sussex would ensure that Surrey retained the Stovold Trophy. A slight hiccup occurred the night before with one of our players realising that they had left their clubs a long way from home! Not to worry Alicia stepped into the breach despite coming straight from Junior County Match Week.
A motivational ode penned by Alice with a little bit of assistance from Chat GPT was circulated to the team with numerous references to Pinkies and of course those legends of golf – Happy Gilmore, Caddyshack and Tin Cup! It clearly did the trick! Claire London was match manager for the day and the team was supported, as always, by our fabulous President, Ann Gems. A thank you to Banstead Downs who were excellent hosts.
After a 2/1 result to Surrey in the morning foursomes, the team headed into the afternoon singles with a mission to accomplish. Winning the first three matches secured the 5 wins to retain the Stovold Trophy. A fabulous result for Surrey – champions since 2018 (with a small Covid break).
L to R Alice Webb-Wilson, Kim Munro, Alicia Drame, Rachel Higgins, Nicola Smith, Hannah Braidwood
