Surrey played their first match against Northumberland knowing that their opponents had some strong players in the singles matches so needed to get off to a good start in the Foursomes. The first foursomes pair of Emily Peaford and Becky Gee stormed to an early lead which they maintained and they secured an impressive 8&7 victory. The next four matches were much more closely fought with all of them going down the 18th hole but Surrey players showed impressive golf to close out all matches and win 5-0. Obviously feeling very positive Surrey headed into the afternoon matches against Somerset. Again we were keen for the foursomes pairs to get off to good starts and secure early wins and both pairs managed to win 3&2. Mia Ingham had a tough singles match against a very strong Aimee Sawyer but continued to fight and only lost on the 16th hole. Both Emily and Annabel Peaford were in good form and closed out their matches within minutes of each other - Annabel making an eagle on the 16th for a 3&2 win and Emily sinking a very long birdie putt on the 17th to win 2&1. So the team won 4-1 in the afternoon. Only Buckinghamshire was able to win 2 matches so together they lead the tournament. The forecast looks very bad for Saturday but we hope despite that we will be able to complete our matches against Lincolnshire and Norfolk and come away with more success.
